Technology in the Group

Vehicle safety: a priority
Safety is a top priority for PSA Peugeot Citroën. The Group takes a proactive approach to safety by developing technologies designed to make vehicles safer and by spending 10% of its annual R&D budget on safety.

The Group works on the three complementary phases of safety:

- primary safety or accident prevention (road holding, braking, etc.), chiefly through driving aids such as ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS, the LDWS or speed limiter;

- secondary safety or occupant protection in the event of a crash, by improving the body structure and restraint systems (seatbelts and airbags);

- tertiary safety or assistance for victims after an accident: vehicles equipped with the emergency call system can automatically call a specialised help desk, with or without action by the driver. With this innovation, presented in 2003, PSA Peugeot Citroën became European leader in the field of assistance after an accident. Today, the emergency call system is fitted on more than 350,000 Peugeot and Citroën vehicles in the seven European countries where the service is available (soon nine, with Austria and Portugal).

PSA Peugeot Citroën has several world-class vehicle testing centres, to test the safety of vehicles before their market launch.

To date, twelve Peugeot and Citroën vehicles have achieved the maximum score of five stars in EuroNCAP crash tests: the Peugeot 1007, 207, 207 CC, 308, 407, Coupé 407 and 807 and the Citroën C4, C5, C6, C8 and Grand C4 Picasso. The C6 achieved the highest ever EuroNCAP score for pedestrian safety with its active bonnet system, one of the Group's latest safety innovations.

EuroNCAP: European New Car Assessment Program.
An independent European organisation, made up mainly of consumer groups and European government bodies (chiefly transport ministries). EuroNCAP publishes crash test scores based on star ratings.
