An efficient industrial base

In 2007, PSA Peugeot Citroën manufactured 14,700 vehicles and 16,000 powertrain components a day.
With its shot of generalization the best industrial practices and its policy of platforms, the Group reduced production costs of the order of € 600 million a year.

To attain its growth objectives, PSA Peugeot Citroën has developed an industrial base of global dimensions consisting of 15 production centres (of which 4 as part of cooperation projects) and 15 powertrain and casting plants (engines, gearboxes, running gear, etc.). To boost this industrial base, the Group has introduced a plan to improve industrial efficiency.
In each of its plants, the Group works on continuously improving working conditions and ergonomics, notably by making assembly easier and by standardising parts. The Group employs more than 66 ergonomists, who disseminate best practices worldwide.
The Group has also signed strategic cooperation agreements with other manufacturers. These agreements concern vehicle bases (platforms) and components (engines), produced in the plants of one of the manufacturers or in new plants.

Organising by platforms to diversify the offering

Launched in 1998, PSA Peugeot Citroën's platform policy increases vehicle diversity, accelerates launches and also helps to optimise the use of production capacity.
A platform is a common base for several vehicles of the Peugeot and Citroën brands. It consists of the underbody, powerplant, transmission, running gear, etc., and must represent a minimum 60% of vehicle cost price. PSA Peugeot Citroën can thus use the same vehicle base to develop a range of body styles - saloons, estates, MPVs, cabriolets and coupés.

The platforms policy with the industrial efficiency shot allow every year a € 600 million economy in production costs.

Seven cooperation agreements with the world's leading manufacturers

PSA Peugeot Citroën works in partnership with the world's leading manufacturers to develop and produce vehicle bases and components (engines, gearboxes, etc.). These technical and industrial agreements respect the personality and independence of the partners and allows them to share the investment costs, benefit from larger production series and widen their product range.
The Group is currently involved in seven cooperation agreements, with Renault, Fiat, Ford, BMW, Toyota and Mitsubishi.
