The 200,000th Turbo PureTech petrol engine rolled off the production line at the Française de Mécanique plant on Saturday, 7 November 2015. Manufactured by the weekend team deployed since October to meet growing demand for the three-cylinder model, the unit will be shipped to the Madrid assembly plant to be fitted to a Citroën C4 Cactus. Nearly 20% of Citroën C4 Cactus cars coming out of production are equipped with the Turbo PureTech petrol engine.
Production of the Turbo PureTech engine was launched in March 2014 at the Française de Mécanique plant in Douvrin, France (in the Pas-de-Calais region). A total of 1,150 units are manufactured per day by four teams working at the facility, and ramp-up of production is in progress.
The modular, high-performance, three-cylinder engine is fitted on the Peugeot 208, 308, 2008 and 3008, the Citroën C3, C4, C4 Cactus and C4 Picasso, and also the DS 3 and DS 4. Thanks to high-precision, direct-injection technology, it cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by an average of 18% compared with the naturally aspirated EP Prince four-cylinder engine, already the market’s top performer. The smaller, lighter weight Turbo PureTech petrol engine offers a remarkable level of driving pleasure and performance for a model in its cylinder class.
In June 2015, the Turbo PureTech was named “Engine of the Year” in the 1-litre to 1.4-litre category at the International Engine of the Year Awards.

About the Turbo PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine
The EB PureTech family of three-cylinder engines boasts extremely high levels of performance, cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by an average of 18% compared with its predecessors. The 1-litre and 1.2-litre naturally aspirated versions have been manufactured since 2012 at the French Trémery plant, which has an annual production capacity of 640,000 units. The 1.2-litre turbo versions have been split since March 2014 between the Française de Mécanique plant and the Xiangyang plant in China, which have respective annual production capacities of 320,000 and 200,000 units.
About the North Region Manufacturing Division
To step up the competitiveness of the PSA Group’s manufacturing base in Europe (and in France in particular), and jump-start improvements in plant manufacturing performance, PSA Peugeot Citroën created a North Region Manufacturing Division on 1 January 2015 to unite the Française de Mécanique (Douvrin), Valenciennes and Sevelnord (Hordain) facilities. The Division’s purpose is to leverage PSA Peugeot Citroën’s strong presence in France’s Nord-Pas-de-Calais region by developing synergies between the three plants and aligning their operating methods.
