PSA Peugeot Citroën signs a partnership with P&TLuxembourg to increase development of its automotive telematic services in Europe

Today, 15 May 2009, PSA Peugeot Citroën and P&TLuxembourg signed a partnership to provide a mobile telecommunication solution which will be available as standard (depending on the model) from 2010 in Peugeot and Citroën vehicles.

The new equipment developed by PSA Peugeot Citroën separates the telematic function from the radio, navigation and personal phone functions, and includes an embedded SIM card, meaning it is part of an Autonomous Telematic Box (ATB) fitted in vehicles: with this solution, the customer benefits from emergency and assistance services free of charge and without subscription.

Currently, these services are available from equipment combining radio, navigation, personal phone and telematic functions, the latter requiring the customer to use a SIM card.
Since the advent of ATB, personal telephone calls can be made using Bluetooth modules in audio and navigation equipment.

This new equipment is PSA Peugeot Citroën’s answer to the eventual standardisation of the European emergency call system (eCall project) and the basis for the development of new telematic services, such as fleet management.

At present, PSA Peugeot Citroën remains the European leader in the use of telematics: more than 700,000 Peugeot and Citroën vehicles equipped with the emergency call system have been sold since 2003, and almost 3,500 people in difficulty have been assisted by the emergency services in the 9 European countries where the service is currently available.

The signed agreement involves P&TLuxembourg providing PSA Peugeot Citroën with:

  • a mobile telephone solution specially developed for the automotive telematic service
  • coverage for this solution in 27 European Union countries as well as EFTA countries (Switzerland, Norway and Iceland), including the related management components.

In entrusting this service to P&TLuxembourg, PSA Peugeot Citroën has chosen the partner providing the best quality roaming service (capacity) at a European level and demonstrating a willingness to invest in the development of an innovative solution.
This partnership enables P&TLuxembourg to highlight the development of its mobile solutions for other applications and develop a new domain of telematic activity. In order to best respond to the expectations of its customer, P&TLuxembourg has demonstrated its expertise and flexibility to PSA Peugeot Citroën by developing a dedicated telematic solution.
