A New Youth Employment Drive for 2010-2011
During the meeting of the Group’s European Works Council, Denis Martin, Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Excellence, announced a major youth employment programme involving 7,400 people in Europe, of whom 6,400 in France.
In France, by the summer of 2011, PSA Peugeot Citroën will take on 2,000 apprentices, 600 youth under skills-acquisition contracts, 2,500 interns and 200 volunteers under VIE co-op placements.
In addition to these youth training schemes, the Group will hire 1,100 people in France in such strategic processes as innovation, business development, services and production:
The goals of this ambitious youth training and hiring programme are in line with the policies deployed over the past year. It is designed to prepare the capabilities the Company will need in the future, while giving young people real career opportunities and workplace experience by enabling them to discover first-hand the jobs and values of a large manufacturer like PSA Peugeot Citroën.
To encourage the transfer of knowledge and foster integration into the corporate community, older employees will asked to mentor and sponsor the newcomers.
In addition, it was announced that the Group’s manufacturing and sales subsidiaries in Europe plan to hire more than 1,000 people over the period, of which 400 under youth training schemes.
These hiring programmes and youth training schemes were favourably received by all of the unions during the European Works Council meeting.
Together, they demonstrate that, despite the uncertainties still surrounding the automobile industry, and particularly the impact of the phase-out of government incentives and subsidies, PSA Peugeot Citroën is maintaining its firm commitment to bringing young people into the workplace and is deploying a major hiring programme.
