50th Anniversary Celebration for PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Plant in Vigo, Spain

On Tuesday, July 15, 2008, PSA Peugeot Citroën celebrated the 50th anniversary of its manufacturing facility in Vigo, Spain, in a ceremony attended by His Majesty King Juan Carlos 1st of Spain, Her Majesty Queen Sophie and Thierry Peugeot, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

With manufacturing operations in Vigo since 1958, PSA Peugeot Citroën is a major player in the local economy and the largest company in Spain’s Galicia region.

PSA Peugeot Citroën’s industrial presence in the region’s most-populated city has led to the development of an automotive cluster that now comprises 87 suppliers.

In 2007, Vigo produced 547,000 vehicles, making it PSA Peugeot Citroën’s largest plant. Back in 1958, the site turned out four hundred 2CV AZUs.

Vigo currently manufactures the Citroën C4 Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso, Xsara Picasso, Berlingo First and new Berlingo, as well as the Peugeot Partner Origin and new Partner.

During today’s celebration, Thierry Peugeot highlighted Vigo’s importance in PSA Peugeot Citroën’s manufacturing base and saluted its contribution to a vibrant European industry.
